An Audio Mp3 Book Turned My Son Into a Better Basketball Player!
Paul Simari asked:
Brian made the varsity basketball team as a sophomore last year, which rarely ever happens at Dover High School. Not only did he make the team, but he was the starting forward, and led the team in rebounding and finished second on the team in scoring. That was last season. Now, as a junior, he knew this was his year to take over the team. He would have college coaches coming to watch his games, and recruiters would be calling to speak with him. If he continued to play well and improve, this would most likely mean a free college education for Brian – and as his father, I was all for that!
But Brian started off the season playing well below his standards. It seemed like he lacked concentration and motivation, and his play was unusually slow and sloppy. He still was able to score like he did last year, but he was getting by using his pure physical size and strength most of the time instead of his talents. He was still good – but he had the potential to be great … he just needed a little fire to get there!
I remembered back when I was in high school. I was a football player. Whenever I felt that I needed some motivation before games, I always listened to speeches on tape by my favorite football coaches – Knute Rockne, Vince Lombradi, Bill Walsh. After listening to those guys in the locker room, I would get out on the field and fight my *** off for my team!
And then it hit me – if that worked for me, then it sure as hell should work for Brian too!
I knew that he liked to listen to music on his mp3 before basketball games and in the locker at halftime, so I downloaded an audio book online called “Motivational Speeches For Athletes By Professional Coaches” onto Brian’s mp3 player. The next day, an hour before the start of his next game, I told him to listen to it. After the book finished, he looked at me and simply nodded his head. He didn’t say a word, but I could tell that it worked.
Brian went out that night and scored a school record 47 points. After the game, he thanked me for giving him that audio book. He said it was exactly what he needed to motivate him and get him to play up to his abilities.
Now, several months later, Brian has maintained his awesome play, and he has had Villanova, Seton Hall, and Rutgers all come knocking on our door!

Acupuncture And Sports Injury Help
Rohit Chopra asked:
Athletics has always been a way for younger people to jockey for position to show superiority over others. The competition is the means that leads to an end result of being the best at something. Athletes must know their bodys limits to ward off injuries. When they overstep the precipice, they can get hurt.
Injuries are a fact of life and very few people can continue to consistently stay at the top of their game. People like Cal Ripken JR are few and far away. The so called iron men of sports even get injuries but they are not at the level that its impossible to perform. Many professional athletes are turning to alternative methods to seek help because surgery puts them on the sideline for the rest of each season.
Acupuncture and sports injury are now being used to make the injury less debilitating and letting people get on with their season. Acupuncture will help to cure or alleviate pain associated with an injury and thats why it is widely used. All athletes whether professional or not, want something to keep them playing. In fact, if acupuncture and sports injury were not synonymous, acupuncture would not even be in a locker room. It would have long ago died out. The facts show that it does work and the relief that athletes have gotten is why it is used as a tool for recovery.
Acupuncture And Sports Injury Promises
Professional athletes command millions of dollars to the teams owners and not playing due to injuries can ruin a teams season quickly. The players will get paid whether they play or not so it is in the owners interest to provide all forms of possible healing that they can find and afford. Acupuncture works by applying the needle which is solid and not hollow, to meridian points along the body. Injuries can sometimes be ended sooner by allowing the injury to have full energy to heal.
Sports injury acupuncture works to speed the healing process or to take away a lot of the pain without having to take pain killers which can be addictive. It allows ones own body to heal without other complications or re-injury. Sports injury acupuncture has been known to work in the orient for over a thousand years. The fact that American athletes are finally figuring this out means that people will be able to play longer and reach new heights in sports by breaking old records that may otherwise have stood for many years to come.

Canadian Hockey League Formations
Jim Brown asked:
Following the action on the ice when the Canadians are battling it out will depend on which league peaks the interest of hockey fans around the world. The action that people view on television could be from the Western Hockey League hockey players or those that play in the Ontario Hockey League. The mix of hockey players on the ice could change up some weeks when members of the Quebec Major Junior take charge. It does not matter which league is playing during the week because all hockey fans know that the action they view will be thrilling either way.
The Canadian Hockey League serves as host to hockey teams that play the game of hockey just as passionately as their counterparts do in the United States. On any given week, however, it is quite possible for teams to be fined because their coach overstepped the boundaries of decorum and expressed feelings that were later deemed to be very inappropriate by officials or those higher up. Canadian hockey teams are resilient enough to find the courage to step back out on the ice the next week and win their team another victory that is far less controversial.
Before the Commissioner of a certain league imposes such penalties, all parties are consulted to ensure that all transgressions are made a matter of record and there are no grey areas on what was said, or what occurred by all parties involved. Once the air has cleared around the two teams, and the appropriate penalties have been assigned, the Canadian hockey players can in clear conscience return to the ice for another battle.
While they continue play, they will probably continue to hope that their coaches will remain silent on the sidelines and continue to be just as devoted to guiding them like they are supposed to instead of letting their passions get the best of them during a game. Some hockey players might carry out their aggressions while on the ice over something that happened weeks ago. It is hard to tell how hockey players will play week to week because fans are not privy to some of the behind the scene actions that occur in the locker room between two teams.
The road to Kitchener begins with the Canadian Hockey League on 2 October each year, and the Canadian hockey team head in certain directions to complete the games that are on their schedules. Some hockey teams might head to Saint John and others might return to Quebec City. The pace that hockey players keep in making the games on the individual schedules is almost as brisk as the speed at which they skate on the ice during each hockey game they play in.
Every week, the Canadian Hockey League will select a Player of the Week and the ADT Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. The player that is selected for either of these awards can come from Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, or the Quebec Major Junior league. Fans will be thoroughly entertained with the background information that is provided about the winner and will be surely inspired after reading the play-by-play reports of the hockey ice action that earned them such an honor.

From Yzerman to Lidstrom
Shariwings asked:
When Steve Yzerman became the captain of the Detroit Red Wings in 1986, everyone had thought Jacques Demers had lost his noodle. He was the youngest captain in the franchise’s history and in the NHL at the time. Now we all have the pleasure of hindsight, but 22 years ago Demer’s saw something special. Steve Yzerman is easily considered one of the best captains in NHL history. Being the longest serving captain of one team his entire career is quite an achievement. After such a long tenure, how is it that it was such an easy transition to the current captain, Nick Lidstrom?
When Yzerman became captain, he was quiet and shy. He basically led by example on the ice. His smooth play. He had six consecutive 100+ point seasons. He was rarely penalized. When Scotty Bowman took over the team in 93-94 season, he took over a team that had been struggling for decades. He immediately looked to the captain to help turn that around. Scotty Bowman stressed the importantance of defense. Steve Yzerman changed his game and became an excellent defensive forward. Under the guidence of Scotty Bowman, the Red Wings captured their first Stanley cup in over four decades in 1997. The stress on defence and Yzerman changing his game were key factors. Steve Yzerman never put up the numbers like he had during the first part of his career, but he was just as important, if not more, being a great defensive forward.
Steve Yzerman never had to say much. His team looked up to him and trusted him. They watched his perserverance and leadership on the ice. That transfered to the locker room. He didn’t have to stand on a chair and yell out inspirational things, he was inspirational himself. Overshadowed in his career by other great hockey players like Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier and Mario Lemieux, his teammates knew how great he was. Eventually it was realized by the entire hockey league.
Nick Lidstrom came to Detroit and has also spent his entire career there. He was quiet and put up great numbers as a defensman. Here was another case where for years, his team and fans knew he was amazing and the rest of the league had yet to notice. Nick Lidstrom is an important part of the team and even while Yzerman was still there, the rest of the team looked to him for guidence as well.
When Steve Yzerman retired, Detroit hockey fans were sad. What an amazing career, but we all knew it would come to an end. When Nick Lidstrom was handed the C, Detroit hockey fans cheered. Nick Lidstrom also was the quiet sort, never seeking out attention for his amazing exploits. He is always described as being in the right place at the right time, always. He is not overally physical, but always effective. Nick Lidstrom doesn’t need to say much in the locker room either. A veteran who spent his entire career in one city, is looked up to by the youngsters, and respected by his peers. He leads the Red Wings by his demeanor and his play.
Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom may have played different positions, be from different countries, but they share a common attitude. An absolute love of the game. They both have the poise, respect and unassumed leadership that other people just gravitate towards. They perfected their game for the betterment of their team. They are future hall of famers who now both have the honor of leading their team to the ultimate prize, the Stanley cup. The trust that their teammates have in them is unyielding and a true testament to sports players everywhere. There was no better man to take over for Steve Yzerman. All Red Wings fans hope that Nick Lidstrom will be here for many more years.
~~On another note, I predict Henrik Zetterberg to be the next captain of the Red Wings, carrying on a tradition of on the ice leadership and amazing play offensively and defensively. He is like a Swedish version of Steve Yzerman and I predict that if he does take over for Lidstrom someday, it will be another smooth transition. This article is based mostly on opinion, if you have anything to add or your own opinion, it will be readily accepted and noted.

Prepare Your Mind for Boxing
Sarah Johns asked:
Boxing is not only about getting into great physical shape and mastering the art but to have the mental makeup to succeed inside the ring. All of us are aware that boxing is one of the most physically challenging sports that require body strength in addition to fair levels of cardiovascular endurance. What most of us fail to realize is the boxer must also have a mind as tough as the body. In boxing, you will be worm out or injured, yet will be forced to continue fighting until the bell rings. You have the option to quit, but real fighters never will.
All boxers understand the importance of running, observing diet control, and training hard at the gym. But still you find some fighters in amazing shape while others only mediocre. This is because of the mental discipline of the fighter. A day in the life of a fighter consists of an early wakeup followed by a morning session of running. Their roadwork consists of hills, sprints, and torturous intervals. The morning session is far from enjoyable, yet because of its importance, boxers faithfully follow it. When you decide to succeed inside the ring, your mind must be tough. You begin to make boxing your sole purpose in life. You have to eat, sleep, and dream boxing to succeed. Boxing is a sport for the valiant, those that are strong both mentally and physically. With dedicated training and experience they learn to overcome fear, anxiety and diffidence.
The wait in the locker room before the bout can be a nightmarish experience for any boxer. You are often left alone in the locker room, while your trainer works with other fighters from the team. There are times when you doubt yourself, even question your physical conditioning. The agonizing wait in the locker room is enough to break the average man. You have to reconcile to the feeling of sitting and waiting to do battle with another man, whose soul purpose is to knock you out. Discouraging thoughts race through your head but you should have the mental strength to remain unfazed showing no visible expression. You must shadow box to loosen the tightness of your nerves. When fight time comes, these thoughts will quickly vanish. Through experience, you learn to overcome these nervous, anxious feelings that arise before the bout. The mind is compared to a monkey and it can play tricks on you. For this reason, you must train the mind not to buckle under pressure.
Athletes, bodybuilders, fitness enthusiasts, strength coaches, personal trainers, and every one interested in training and conditioning must learn to develop the perfect mental strength. If you lose or get knocked down, you must readily get up and fight. When a boxer loses, many are quick to call them bums or over the hill. These people fail to understand that boxing is not like any other sport. It takes time to learn and master the techniques. You must learn from your losses and live to fight another day.
No external force can instill the mental toughness and work ethic required to be a boxing champion. Rather you must explore within yourself and find these qualities and build on them. It is all a question of self-belief and through sheer hard work you gain confidence in your training. Boxing is a sport that does not involve luck but rather boxing is a sport that rewards those that work hard and overcome impediments.

A regular exercise, an intense workout is just part and parcel of your path to health, fitness and well-being. There are other factors that should just as well play a part and which Twenty Four Hour fitness center teaches you.
Food intake is one of them. A menu is provided to those who follow the performance path. This details what you should or should not eat, or at least eat less of, if not completely avoid. Cardio is also one as this enhances your endurance to stress and exercise. Vitamins and supplements are a necessity unless you are sure that you are able to receive the proper amounts of iron, calcium, vitamin C or D or E in a day. If not, it is best to take them in. Resistance training is a feather in your fitness cap and is a necessary tool for being healthy, wealthy and wise.
